About Us

Adam - Owner

Adam Nelson began his career in electrical systems while wiring homes as a student in Utah Valley University’s Electrical Automation and Robotic Technology program. During his second year, he earned a summer internship with Kennecott Utah Copper, which quickly transitioned into a full-time role as an Electrical Craftsman.

Over the next eight years at Kennecott, Adam developed a strong foundation in industrial electrical systems, control systems (including DeltaV and PLCs), and instrumentation. His drive to expand his expertise led him to HF Sinclair, a local oil refinery, where he spent another eight years specializing in instrumentation and control systems within the oil and gas industry.

Adam later returned to Kennecott to join the IPS (Instrumented Protective Systems) department, where he focused on functional safety — conducting field testing and verification of critical instrumentation and plant safety control systems.

With nearly two decades of hands-on experience across mining, refining, and industrial automation, Adam now offers his expertise through Core Diagnostics, helping businesses maintain safe, reliable, and efficient control systems.

Spencer - Owner

Spencer graduated from Utah Valley University in May 2010 with an AAS degree in Electrical Automation and Robotics Technology. Shortly after, he completed an internship as an electrical craftsman at Kennecott Utah Copper’s Refinery, which led to a full-time position at the Concentrator. Over the next nine years, Spencer honed his skills maintaining, testing, and troubleshooting a wide range of industrial electrical systems—including power distribution, DeltaV and PLC I/O, motor controls, instrumentation, and calibration.

Known for his sharp eye for detail and a natural talent for troubleshooting, Spencer thrives on diagnosing complex problems and working through them systematically. His dedication to resolving tough control system failures became a defining part of his role.

In the spring of 2019, Spencer took on a new challenge with a six-year stint on the Instrumented Protective Systems (IPS) team. Drawing on his extensive field experience and precision-focused mindset, he helped build and refine a robust functional safety program from the ground up. He developed and executed detailed procedures for testing instrumentation and control devices to ensure the end-to-end reliability of safety-critical systems.

Spencer is driven by challenges and a deep love of problem-solving. He looks forward to applying his skills and experience to support customers through Core Diagnostics. Outside of work, he enjoys everything the outdoors has to offer—especially bowhunting mule deer, spending time with family, and building lasting friendships.
